I must apologise to remain so blunt, but if Derrick Lewis cannot connect with Blaydes's chin at the beginning of each round, his chances of winning the fight drop dramatically.
Lewis picked up his Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt in 2020, with such devastating knockout power he's naturally attempting to evolve his ground game. Throwing up submissions from the bottom guard could be a path for Lewis, but this route is improbable given his opponent's technical level when fights are on the ground.
It's simple for Lewis: Throw them hands, and hopefully, a connection will be made.
How Can Blaydes Win?
Relentless wrestling offense and a top-heavy ground and pound game that will force any heavyweight into submission. The game plan for Blaydes is also relatively simple – wrestle!
Blaydes's athleticism is a considerable advantage, and he is going to hold a speed, agility, size, and age advantage against the legend Derrick Lewis.
In a five-round fight, I would not expect Lewis's cardio to stand the test of time up against Blaydes. Once Lewis begins to lose breath, he will want nothing to do with Blaydes' top game, forcing an eventual stoppage.
