The first race at Fair Grounds Race Course took place on March 20, 1839. At that time it was called the Louisiana Race Course. The city of New Orleans hosts many great events. The Louisiana Derby is just one of the many traditions. The city also hosts a large Mardi Gras celebration, and has been the site of the Super Bowl several times.
